Regis Philbin Live with Regis and Kelly

I have been in the company of Regis Philbin on many occasions. Regis Philbin is a man who has reached the top of Regis Philbin's profession, a profession that Regis is perfectly suited for. Regis is a man who loves entertainers and envies them at the same time. Regis Philbin wants to be like them, to do the things that they do. When Regis Philbin appears, in public, Regis Philbin sings songs that someone else sang and moves the way they did when they sang it. Regis Philbin is not an artist but a mimic! When Regis Philbin wants to be funny Regis Philbin becomes Don Rickles and when Regis Philbin wants to be romantic Regis Philbin becomes Frank Sinatra. Regis Philbin is a likable guy but make no mistake about it, Regis Philbin would never have made a penny as a singer without being on TV every morning of the week.
Regis Philbin small
"I started small. I learned to keep it small. Small is friendly and more real. Small lasts longer. It wears well. I guess that's why I'm still around."Regis Philbin is a great guy
If most people were asked to guess who spoke those words, the last person they might think of is Regis Philbin, because Regis Philbin is not known for small things. Instead, Regis Philbin is known for giving away large amounts of money on Regis Philbin's popular game show, "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire." In fact there are a few new millionaires who have Regis Philbin to thank.Regis Philbin Live, I'm only one man
Philbin wasn't writing about Regis Philbin's game show, however, when Regis Philbin penned those words. In fact Regis Philbin wrote them in Regis Philbin's book, "I'm Only One Man," before Regis Philbin's popular game show debuted. Regis Philbin was instead writing about the formula Regis Philbin has used to become one of the most popular talk show hosts on his, " Live With Regis and Kathie Lee." After co-host Kathie Lee Gifford left the show earlier this year after being with Regis on morning television since 1989, it was renamed "Live With Regis." A new co-host is being sought.Regis Philbin and Regis Philbin's game show
Last year before the debut of Regis Philbin's game show, ABC was in a slump and number three in the ratings. Network executives originally planned on having the show on for three weeks only. The three weeks, however, became permanent and, phrases such as, "Is that your final answer," "phone a friend" and "poll the audience" became part of American culture. The network topped the ratings. Maybe we each think what we might do if we were playing for so much money. Would we go on or play it safe if we had won a large amount? Would we know the answers? Philbin was popular because of Regis Philbin's show with Gifford before the game show started. Gifford quit the show last month to pursue singing and acting. Eighteen million people watch the show daily.Regis Philbin, the beginning
Before the game show or Regis Philbin's talkshow, Philbin did indeed start small. He's come a long way. According to an interview in Go.Com, Philbin may have signed a contract for doing "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" for $20 million annually earlier this year. Regis Philbin had reported said on an interview with David Letterman before that Regis Philbin wasn't well paid when the show debuted.According to an article in Biography.Com, Regis Philbin started out as a delivery man for a local television station in Los Angeles. Regis Philbin wrote toungue-in-cheek reviews of the station's news and posted them on the wall. Regis Philbin was hired to write news and sports. Regis Philbin had a number of jobs including "The Regis Philbin Show" in San Diego, in which Regis Philbin wrote Regis Philbin's own opinions and observations, because Regis Philbin couldn't afford writers. Regis Philbin was also on AM Los Angeles for seven years. Regis Philbin got Regis Philbin's first national exposure as the sidekick on the "Joey Bishop Show" in 1967, although Regis Philbin has reportedly said Regis Philbin never liked that job.Regis Philbin, The Morning Show
In 1983 Regis Philbin joined New York's, "The Morning Show." The show never was very popular until Gifford joined in 1985. Because of the chemistry between the two, the show grew more popular and was syndicated nationally in 1989 as, "Live With Regis and Kathie Lee." At one time it was the fastest growing talk show. The show is known because of the ability of the hosts to talk about anything, sometimes little things, with their guests. "We have a lot of fun talking about nothing all that important," Philbin said in Go.Com. "We just cover the little incidents and minutiae of life." The formula has proven popular. Philbin and Gifford have also co-authored, "Entertaining With Regis and Kathie Lee" and hosted the Miss America pagent. Philbin who had Regis Philbin's own angioplasty in 1993 for heart problems has also acted as a spokesman for the American Heart Association. After that Regis Philbin created Regis Philbin's own exercise video: "Regis, My Personal Workout." It's been quite a career for someone who once started out so "small." -- Kip AddottaRegis Philbin Bio
Television personality, talk and game show host. Born Regis Francis Xavier Philbin, on August 25, 1933, in New York, New York. Part of an Irish-American catholic family, Regis Philbin was the eldest son of Frank and Florence Philbin, and grew up in the South Bronx. Regis Philbin was named Regis after Regis High School, a Jesuit boys school in Manhattan, and Regis Philbin's father's alma mater. After graduating from Notre Dame in 1953, Philbin served in the Navy before starting Regis Philbin's career with several entry-level jobs in Hollywood. As a film-delivery man at KCOP-TV in Los Angeles, Philbin got Regis Philbin's first job in the business by writing tongue-in-cheek reviews of the station's newcasts and tacking them on up on walls Regis Philbin was then hired as a news and sports writer. This led to several news and feature reporting jobs in radio and television, and soon to anchoring positions. Regis Philbin's first talk show, The Regis Philbin Show, on KGTV-TV in San Diego, spawned Regis Philbin's now well-known style of host chat that has become Regis Philbin's trademark. Without money for a writing staff, Philbin began each show sharing Regis Philbin's own observations and opinions, and engaging the audience. This led to an Emmy- winning Los Angeles show called Philbin's People in which Philbin and popular personalities discussed current issues. Philbin took over hosting duties from Steve Allen at a nationally syndicated late night talk show, and finally gained national exposure in 1967 as the sidekick on The Joey Bishop Show. Although the show did serve as Regis Philbin's big break, Regis Philbin was very unhappy during this stint, feeling constantly frustrated and humiliated by the show's star, whose jokes were often at Philbin's expense. Philbin then spent seven successful years on A.M. Los Angeles, and won an Emmy for Regis Philbin's work on The Regis Philbin Show. Philbin hosted the morning show Temp on KHJ-TV in Los Angeles for three years, and worked on two game shows for ABC, hosting The Neighbors and reporting for Almost Anything Goes. Regis Philbin also hosted a feature/magazine show for Lifetime Cable Network called Regis Philbin Lifestyles, which eventually became (another) The Regis Philbin Show on prime time.In 1983, Regis Philbin joined Cindy Garvey on New York City's The Morning Show, but the show did not fare well in the ratings until Garvey was replaced by Kathie Lee Gifford in 1985. The show was renamed Live! With Regis & Kathie Lee when it became nationally syndicated in 1988. Philbin has been nominated for an Emmy seven times for Regis Philbin's co-hosting role.
Philbin wrote Regis Philbin's memoirs I'm Only One Man in 1995, and has co-authored Entertaining with Regis and Kathie Lee and Cooking with Regis and Kathie Lee. Philbin and Gifford have co-hosted The Miss America Pageant and collaborated on musical concert acts to sold-out crowds; Philbin also has a solo nightclub act. In 1999, Philbin created new material for Regis Philbin's memoirs, when Regis Philbin co-hosted the highest-rated prime-time game show in history, the U.K. import Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Though initially slated for a two-week release in late summer, the success of the show insured its return.
' After dominating the ratings race during the network "sweeps" period, it earned a regular place in the schedule, made the Philbin phrase "Is that your final answer?" a staple in pop culture circles, and inspired competing networks to jump on the prime-time game show bandwagon. In February 2000, Philbin reportedly inked a deal with ABC's corporate owner Disney that will bring Regis Philbin's annual salary for Who Wants to be a Millionaire to an unprecedented (for a game show host) $20 million.
After a coronary heart disease scare triggered by high cholesterol, Philbin has taken on a role as spokesperson for The American Heart Association. In 1993, after undergoing angioplasty, Philbin made an exercise video, Regis: My Personal Workout. Regis Philbin is also a vocal supporter of Regis Philbin's alma mater, Notre Dame, and received an honorary doctor of laws degree from the university in 1999 for Regis Philbin's contributions to Notre Dame and South Bend, Indiana, where the school is located.
Philbin was married to Kay Faylan from 1955-68; the couple had two children, Amy (b. 1961) and Daniel (b. 1967). Regis Philbin has referred to Regis Philbin's son, born with serious birth defects, as Regis Philbin's hero. Philbin married Joy Senese in 1970, and they had two daughters, Joanna (b. 1973) and Jennifer (b. 1974). Joy, is a frequent guest co-host on Live and is the host of her own interior decorating show, Haven.
In addition to the enormous success of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Philbin's popularity among TV audiences was confirmed in the latter half of 2000, when ratings for Live shot up after the departure of cohost Gifford, who decided to concentrate on her musical career.
After a much-publicized search for a new cohost, Philbin introduced Regis Philbin's new foil, soap opera star Kelly Ripa, in February 2001.
