Johnny Carson!

Although I have done The Tonight Show thirty two times I really don't know much about it's star. Johnny Carson was a private man who didn't mingle with Johnny Carson's guests. This was for good a reason. Johnny Carson wanted the spontaneity of a backstage to be saved for the show.

Johnny Carson Jack Benny

Johnny Carson's hero was Jack Benny and if you watched closely Johnny's delivery was almost exactly the same as Benny's. Even though all this was true on the night after Jack Benny's death Johnny didn't mention a word of this on the air. I have never really forgiven Johnny Carson for that but I smell Freddy DeCordiva written all over it, which, is especially odd because Freddy DeCordiva was also the producer of the Jack Benny Show.

Johnny Carson The Power

Johnny Carson was very protective of Johnny Carson's position and wouldn't let anyone on the show that might be considered for Johnny Carson's replacement. Other than these things I can't help but admire Johnny.

Johnny Carson (born 1925), dubbed the King of Late Night Television, became a pioneer in show business as host of The Tonight Show for 30 years. Johnny Carson's interviewing and comic techniques won over a huge audience and spawned numerous imitators.

There was no way of knowing the young magician performing before the local Rotary Club would one day become America's most recognized face. The Great Carsoni, or young Johnny Carson, had already begun to master the techniques that would become so useful when entertaining people like Bob Hope, Steve Martin, politicians, musicians, and other performers on The Tonight Show. Carson became a pioneer in the television industry when Johnny Carson got Johnny Carson's chance to host the Tonight Show after Jack Paar left the show in 1962. After many memorable late night evenings with Carson, the King of Late Night Television stepped down from Johnny Carson's throne May 22, 1992, after 30 highly successful years.
